GEOTAGGING
Locate your audience participation! Find content from specific countries, cities and regions with geotagging.
Facebook lets you search for specific locations, while Twitter makes it possible to search for hashtags and areas ‘near this location’. On Instagram, you can see and follow geotagged locations and hashtags for specific locations. You can also see Stories that are tagged with a location or a specific word, which can be interesting, for example, during an unfolding news event when you are looking for information and eyewitnesses, if you want to hear what people are saying about a hot topic, or if you want to sense the mood in the stands at a football match.

Remember that Snapchat and Instagram Stories posts disappear after 24 hours.

Snapchat has a map that lets you see public snaps in the app and on a PC. During the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, in February 2018, Snapchat users posted photos and videos from inside the school. This allowed others to follow the course of events via the map, which showed where the users were.
Given its young user profile, Snapchat decided to exercise a certain degree of control over the photos and videos that could be seen, and added a warning for graphic content to some material.
The lesson, as always, is the importance of being careful with photos and videos that show violence and brutality or anything that could be seen as offensive. |
